The Next Night he asked
The next night around the campfire, in front of 120 sixth graders, he asked me what I learned from the Bird Guides I borrowed from his library. I was really embarrassed to think I had to talk in front of all these kids and teacher too.
But I DID learn some things and stalled by telling which books I actually LOOKED at closely. HE asked WHY. I told them the story about the yellow bellied sapsucker that he saw and I wondered how he recognized it so fast.
Then he asked, Did you learn what to look for the next time? Doggone he was GOOD.
