What’s your DOT number?
You’ve been a truck driver for a while, saved your money, and decided to stop working for somebody else. You’ve purchased a nice used tractor and trailer, made some contacts with shippers that have assured you receiving some business, and are ready to roll. Or are you? You need at least a million dollars in liability insurance, plus your DOT number. But if you’re only going to be hauling freight within the confines of one state’s borders, why do you need a federal DOT permit? Because over 50% of the states require you to have it, even for hauling INTRA-state. And you might as well get it anyway in case you have a client who needs stuff hauled across state lines.
